Leave A Legacy
Be sure your giving lasts forever...while you significantly reduce estate and inheritance taxes

Many CCF donors, who are personally involved with their giving, have decided to make plans to support their favorite charities after they are gone.

Historically, less than 7% of Americans leave charitable bequests in their wills, while nearly 80% are charitable during their lifetime.

With the inordinate transfer of wealth ($42 billion) anticipated within the next 25 years, those statistics are changing. There are many ways to maximize your gifts to charities and your beneficiaries through thoughtful bequests in your will.

The two basic ways include:
  • Preparing a will in which you leave a gift to CCF to continue supporting the charitable organizations, which made a difference to you in your lifetime.
  • Name CCF as the beneficiary of your IRA, pension plan or an existing or new life insurance policy.
Types of Bequests

Outright Bequest - You may bequeath a specific item, a specific dollar amount, or a percentage of your estate. We always advise our donors to consult with their advisors to determine the types of assets that are best given to charity and best given to heirs.

Residual Bequest - You may bequeath the remainder of your estate to CCF after your specific inheritance provisions for your family and other heirs have been funded.

Contingency Bequest – You may bequeath a gift under certain terms or conditions, e.g., only if you outlive your spouse. Charitable bequests can be carefully designed to permit the most favorable tax treatment under a variety of circumstances.

Give Back. Look Forward.

Frances P. Bunnelle lived for thirty years in Georgetown, S.C. and loved it.  She was known for her spontaneous and anonymous giving.  In her will, she left the bulk of her estate, $34 million to create an Affiliate Organization at CCF to improve the quality of life in Georgetown County by making grants to address the root causes of poverty, meet basic human needs, advance equitable economic growth and environmental conservation and encourage positive youth development.
