Partnering to build philanthropy
Affiliate Organization

The Jewish Endowment Fund, Inc. (JEF) (1996) was the first organization to become an affiliate of CCF, and is a collection of “composite funds”, each created by a different donor for a distinct charitable purpose addressing the JEF’s mission.

Mission: To encourage donors to endow their support of the Jewish causes and community and the Charleston Jewish Federation.

The soul of JEF’s purpose can best be described through a story taken from the Talmud…

A man came upon his good friend Honi who was working hard to plant a young Carob tree. They talked for a while and the man asked Honi, “When do you expect to harvest the Carob from this tree?” Honi replied, “Oh, this tree will not bear harvestable fruit for at least 70 years.” “Then why do you work so hard to plant this tree if you will not live to see it’s harvest?”

Honi replied as he pointed across the field, “All my life I have had the good fortune to harvest carob from these hundreds of trees. It is because of the foresight of those that lived before me that I owe this new seedling to my generations to follow.”
