Darby Family Foundation (2001) was created to facilitate the Darby family’s charitable giving with grantmaking to begin in fiscal year 2004-2005.
Mission: To provide charitable resources to the communities and causes about which family members care passionately. (Those family members include Dr. and Mrs. Charles P. Darby, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Darby, III, Mr. and Mrs. John C. L. Darby, Commander and Mrs. Ken Haizlip, Mrs. and Mrs. W. Scott Parker and Mr. and Mrs. Matthew D. Wolf.)
Board of Directors: Charles P. Darby, Jr. (Chairman), John C. Darby, William Hewitt, Madeleine McGee, Anne Darby Parker, Burt Schools, Aaron Smith.
Grantmaking: To date, grants have primarily supported programs in health and in education. Some recipients inlcude: Children’s Fund at MUSC, Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, Ashley Hall School, Porter-Gaud School, Graland Country Day School and St. John’s Country Day School. |
Dr. Charles Darby is happiest when surrounded by his own grandchildren or when helping sick children get well. Through the Darby Family Foundation, his children, grands and great-grands will discover the joy of giving back. In the 5 years since inception, the Darby Family Foundation has awarded nearly $2.2 million to causes important to the family.
