In Unison – the perfect harmony

Women Making A Difference (WMD) is a membership organization ($250 +) that began in January of 2002 with a simple idea. If women come together and pool their charitable dollars, they can make a bigger difference in their community than if they act alone.

The brainchild of Weesie Newton, Nancy Snowden and Katie Dukes, this organization has proven that the power of women giving collectively really works.

Not only do they give together, but they learn together. Several times a year, they meet at the end of the working day and listen to someone from a nonprofit in the community talk about the work, the challenges, the rewards, the results. The women can see and hear and feel what their giving is doing. They talk and new ideas are generated and people’s lives are changed. Both those who give and those who receive.

“Together, we have a more significant impact and voice than giving independently,” said Snowden.
Women Making a Difference has granted more than $100,000 to charitable organizations including the Carolina Medical Assessment Center (formerly Care Centers), Carolina Youth Development Center, Center for Women, Crisis Ministries, Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, HALOS (Helping and Lending Outreach Support), Hurricane Island Outward Bound, My Sister’s House, People Against Rape (PAR), and others.
