Giving is Good, but Teaching Your Children Is Even Better
An Isle of Palms resident since 1997, Kay has been involved with community foundations wherever she has lived. She served on the board of the Chattanooga community foundation for six years and helped start one in southwest Florida, where she and her husband, Charles, reside part of the year.
“Community foundations not only support good causes, but also serve as catalysts to create stronger nonprofit agencies by helping to stimulate new ideas about social needs.”
However, for Kay, the personal benefit of creating the Chitty Family Endowment was in using it to teach her children about the importance of giving back to the community. They make grant recommendations as a family. Together, they decide where to give and how much. Their interests are diverse so they agreed to focus their giving on organizations that enhance life for women, children and families, improve the environment and promote conservation.
Nonprofit organizations funded by the Chitty Family Fund include the Florence Crittenten and Medical University of South Carolina. |
